Work With Us

Crustacean Compassion is a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation dedicated to the humane treatment of decapod crustaceans such as lobsters, crabs and prawns, based on scientific evidence of their sentience. We are a small team of animal welfare professionals, and our work is grounded in scientific evidence and ethical reasoning.

Despite our small size we are well-respected in NGO and political circles for our reasoned, determined and creative approach. We raise public awareness of the sentience of decapod crustaceans, work with food businesses to implement changes to their practices and we put pressure on the Government to make the necessary changes to the law. We have received significant public and political attention which has prompted widespread media coverage and are in regular engagement with relevant government departments.

Now is an exciting time to join Crustacean Compassion!

We recently achieved ground-breaking success with the first inclusion of decapods in animal welfare legislation – the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act of 2022. Following this first major milestone, we are experiencing one of our busiest and most exciting periods of development as the team expands and we take forward new opportunities to improve the welfare of these fascinating animals. Join us!
