Impact & achievements
At Crustacean Compassion, our mission is to ensure the humane treatment and welfare of decapod crustaceans such as crabs, lobsters, and prawns. Since our founding, we have made significant strides in advocating for their recognition as sentient beings and protecting them from unnecessary suffering. Our dedicated efforts have led to landmark legislative changes, industry shifts, and growing public awareness. Through research, campaigning, and collaboration with policymakers, businesses, and scientists, we have helped create a more compassionate world for these often-overlooked animals.

Here are just some of our achievements:
Crustaceans are legally recognised as being sentient for the first time and included in the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022
55 scientific experts and celebrities signed our open letter

Over the years, we are proud to say that we have achieved major steps forward in the protection and welfare of millions of crustaceans across the UK, and globally.
So, to mark this milestone, we’ve been reflecting on our accomplishments and invite you to do the same, as we round up a decade of decapod protection.
