Creative Competitions
This year is our second annual Crustacean Compassion Day, and it’s extra special as we’re also marking Crustacean Compassion’s 10-year anniversary - celebrating a decade of decapod crustaceans. That’s a whole ten years of raising awareness, driving change, and championing the welfare of crabs, lobsters, prawns, and other remarkable decapod crustaceans.
The details
As part of this celebration, we’re turning the creative challenges up a notch by hosting a series of fun creative competitions to engage with our wonderful supporters. Whether you’re nearby or on the other side of the world, everyone is invited to join our global community and take part in the festivities.
We have created 5 competition categories, five different ways to get involved, show off your creativity, and be part of Crustacean Compassion Day, no matter what your talents or interests are.
Art competition – get creating, let compassion take shape
Photo competition – get snapping, capture compassion in focus
Joke competition – get cracking, make us laugh for lobsters
Poetry / Prose competition – get writing, give compassion a voice
Pincer Movement competition – get moving, strike a pose with your pincers raised

Art competition
Art
Ready to let your creativity come out of your shell? Our art competition is your chance to get inspired and celebrate crustaceans in all of their glory! Whether you paint, sketch or whatever medium you see fit, we are looking for pieces of art that truly show off these incredible creatures! So submit your entries and show how compassion can be something beautiful.
Joke
We believe compassion and laugher go claw and claw. Our joke competition is your chance to share your shell-shockingly funny jokes, whilst shining a light on our crustacean comrades. Keep it kind, keep it clever, and if your punchline makes people smile and think about crustaceans, you’re onto a real catch.
Pincer Movement
Wherever you call home – village, city, coast or countryside – we want to see it through crustacean claws. Download, print and decorate our template, then snap your crustacean in a place that means something to you: work, school, favourite spot, or even on holiday. No arty skills or travel needed, just a splash of creativity. Help us show that compassion for crustaceans spans the globe.

Got an eye for claw-some shots? Enter our photo competition and let crustaceans have their moment in the spotlight. Whether it’s a crab striking a pose, or shell-ebrating our lobsters, we want images to show the weird and wonderful beauty in crustaceans. Snap with compassion, focus with care, and shine a light on our 10-legged friends.
Poetry/prose
Do you have a way with words? Can you express emotion, humour or highlight sensitive issues through poetry or creative writing? Then this competition is for you! We invite submissions that showcase your originality, your craft and your unique viewpoint. Whether your style is bold, subtle, thought‑provoking, or entertaining, we want to read work that leaves a lasting impression.
